Lagodekhi, Small Waterfall, Saturday 5 June 2010
Our hotel in Lagodekhi town
The trail was well prepared
The end of the trail: The waterfall
We started Friday on our weekend trip to the Lagodekhi Protected Areas.
Lagodekhi Protected Areas cover 24,452 ha in the north-eastern part of Georgia along the border with Russia and Azerbaijan. From a historical perspective, this was the first nature reserve in Georgia, founded in 1912
We started at the main Administration Centre of Lagodekhi Nature Reserve, where we hired a guide – we later found out that it was not really needed as the trail was well marked.
The trail followed the Shoma River and enters the gorge as a foot-path and finishes at the waterfall. There were 5 kilometre to the waterfall, and it was a very nice walk in the untouched forest.
