Old and new Copenhagen, 27th of June 2015

On bike from the North-Western part of Copenhagen, through the old town, to the new housing and business areas in the old commercial harbor – a new suburban area.

Nørrebrogade a quit Saturday morning – usually it is crowded with people, bicycles and cars.

Nørrebrogade is one of Denmark’s most famous streets and runs through the whole of Nørrebro.

My family has been living on Nørrebro for many year, but moved away when my father was young. Working class families lived here with 10 children in small lousy apartments. We have also been living for a couple of years in a new housing area just next to where this picture was taken.

The high school students has just finished their exams – and where visible everywhere in the city cheering and shouting.

Nyhavn (the new harbor) was once one of the Red Light Districts of Copenhagen.

Today Nyhavn is crowded with tourists.

When I was student in Copenhagen generations ago, there were still some of the old taverns in Nyhavn, few people, and Nyhavn was not a posh touristic place.

In this building just next to the ferry to Oslo, the Greater Copenhagen County Council had its offices in its heydays. I was working here as planner on water quality issues for a couple of years

The former industrial port in the Copenhagen South Port has become one of Copenhagen's largest development areas. The development of the northern part of the area, including Sluseholmen Havneholmen and Teglholmen is already in full swing. Already 2,491 homes with 5,115 residents has been build, and eventually should the Copenhagen South Port accommodate a total of 9,000 homes, 16,000 residents and 22,500 jobs. The district will be developed with a mix of commercial, residential and a study - a combination that today characterize these developments. Hike around Hou, Langeland; Denmark, 20 June 2015

The Danish Hikers Association arranged at hike around the northernmost city of Langeland: Hou. On the hike we went from west coast to the east coast of Langeland and back again.

Hou – once with ferry connection to Sealand and many tourists came here with train and ferry from Copenhagen for summer vacation, before the private cars took over.

Midsummer Eve, Paaoe Beach, Langeland, Denmark, 20 June 2015

The Danish celebration of Midsummer Eve started as the heathen celebration of midsummer with the many old traditions. Later on it became a celebration of the sacred saint John, in Danish called Hans and thus the Danish word for Midsummer Eve - Sankt Hans or Sct. Hans. Therefore the celebration always is on the evening of 23 June which is the day before sct. John's day on 24 June. Today Midsummer Eve in Denmark is typically celebrated with a Midsummer Eve bonfire with the burning of a figure as a witch, a speech and the singing of the song “Midsommervisen” - a Danish song written by the Danish poet Holger Drachmann.

The Danish Prime Minister visits Langeland, June 14, 2015

One more day to remember day at Langeland. There is election for the Danish Parliament the 18th of June, and the election campaign is at its highest. The race between the liberal-conservative-national parties (the blue coalition) and socialist-green-liberal parties (the red coalition) are very close. June the 14th, 2015 the present prime minister from the social-democratic party, Helle Thorning, visited Langeland on her campaign trail.
